Who We Are

Tunnelr is made up of a small group of developers and UNIX enthusiasts who enjoy working on new and exciting projects. We initially started devio.us, now one of the largest free OpenBSD shell providers and saw an overload of requests for a reasonably priced tunneling service. As a collective, we have years of experience working in the field as developers, systems administrators, and systems integrators. Due to this, we feel that we have an uncanny ability to produce high quality services such as Tunnelr and have a much quicker turnaround for implementing new feature requests and addressing bug reports.

We have poured thousands of lines of code into Tunnelr and continue improving it every day. We would love to have the opportunity for you to check out Tunnelr and tell us what you think. Your feedback is what constantly makes us better.

Behind the Scenes

In an effort to provide you with the most secure tunneling solutions, we are proud to say that our entire infrastructure is powered by the OpenBSD operating system. OpenBSD has garnered a reputation as being an ultra-secure OS, usually used for firewalls, routers and gateways.

Choosing OpenBSD has simplified a lot of tasks that otherwise would be difficult to implement otherwise. The operating system also has a tiny resource footprint - our nodes utilize less than 200MB's of space and less than 20MB's of RAM - enabling us to quickly deploy new nodes or migrate them entirely.

All of our nodes have at minimum 100Mbit connectivity and we have implemented various monitoring solutions in order to prevent over-utilization or resource abuse.

Our Commitment to You

While there are many VPN tunneling companies out there, we felt that almost all of them tended towards only novice users. With the increasing popularity of Linux and other UNIX based operating systems, many users are becoming more familiar (and in some cases, even comfortable) with the terminal and services such as OpenSSH. As a result, we felt that it was important to give users the ability to choose the appropriate type of tunneling service they were looking for. While staying focused on security, we decided to not offer PPTP tunnels, but instead focus on two primary services - OpenSSH and OpenVPN.

So if you are an experienced industry veteran who is looking for an OpenSSH tunnel or someone who just wants a simple and complete tunneling solution via OpenVPN - we've got you covered.

The Future of Tunnelr

Tunnelr is an ongoing project that is a labor of love. The difference between us and others is very simple - we love what we do. We are dedicated to continuing development of every aspect of the service; be it feature requests, new node locations or even bug fixes.

Lastly, we are here to serve you - if you have an idea or a suggestion, please do not hesitate to contact us and let us know. Our goal is to be the best tunnel provider on the Internet.
