OS X OpenVPN with Viscosity

How to setup OpenVPN on OS X using Viscosity

Step 1

After installing and starting the Viscosity software, download the OpenVPN bundle via the Tunnelr portal; extract the bundle to an accessible location such as the Desktop. Open the folder containing the OpenVPN files, double click the 'tunnelr-user.ovpn' file.



Note: 'tunnelr-user.ovpn' will include your actual Tunnelr username.

Step 2

Viscosity will let you know that it imported the connection successfully; click 'OK'.

Step 3

Click on 'Preferences' in the Viscosity taskbar menu.

Step 4

After selecting the current VPN connection profile, click 'Edit'.

Step 5

Click on the 'Networking' tab and check the 'Send all traffic over VPN connection' checkbox; click 'Save'; close out the preferences window.

Step 6

Click on 'Connect tunnelr-user' in the Viscosity taskbar menu.



Note: 'tunnelr-user' will actually show your Tunnelr username.

Step 7

You will be prompted to enter your Tunnelr username and password credentials; click 'OK'.

Step 8

Upon a successful connection, you should see a small popup indicating your newly acquired (private) IP address.



Note: The 'Viscosity' icon should also turn green.

Step 9

Verify that you are sending all traffic via the VPN by visiting an IP detection site such as 'https://www.tunnelr.com/ip'
